Zale closed the distance. He curled his fingers through her dark hair and forced her to look at him. “What other lies have you told me?”

Her eyes widened and her lips parted.

His gaze settled over her mouth. He wondered if her lips tasted as bitter as her betrayal.

Meri raised her hand to his face. She hesitated, her fingers hovering a few millimeters from his jaw.

Zale resisted the urge to release her. For the first time, he could scent her emotions. Conflict peppered every fiber of the devious woman. Longing mixed with disgust, lust mixed with repulsion, trust mixed with misgiving. Love…and hate. “You do have feelings for me.”

“I don’t understand why you’re angry, or what’s happening. But I feel like I’ve known you my entire life.” Meri brushed her fingertips across his chin, as though she’d aimed for his lips but had either missed her mark or lost her nerve. “I think I’m falling in love with you.”

A wave of heat crested inside him, sending his dragon spiralling toward an unknown shore. One touch, sweet words, and the beautiful betrayer had him under her spell again. Zale’s dragon threw his head back and roared.

The Pisces dragon buried inside her answered his call.

Zale’s knees buckled, but she kept him upright.

“You’re mine.” He used her hair to pull and twist her head until her lips parted beneath his. Zale lowered his face and claimed her mouth. There was nothing soft or gentle in the exchange. No pretty words. No longing looks. No thought other than she belonged to him.

Meri made a sound deep in her throat, half moan, half-growl. She tensed, yet she pressed her chest to his. She pushed his shoulder with one hand, while the other pressed into his back.

Zale ran his tongue across the seam of her lips, but she refused him entry. He took her chin between his forefinger and thumb, pressing down until she opened to him. Once he’d penetrated her mouth, waves of heat swirled inside him.

Though Zale dominated the kiss, Meri fought to gain ground. She slid her tongue past his lips, once, twice, and retreated. He eased back to change position, but she refused to yield. The woman bit his lower lip until he moaned for mercy.

Zale scented the approaching dragons before someone knocked.

Meri pulled back, blinking several times as though waking.

“Not now!” Zale’s graveled voice filled the room.

He sits down on the floor beside me and places my feet in his lap. He looks at me and I’m sure it’s desire I see in his eyes. As he’s rubbing my feet he looks me in the eyes, and for some reason I become bashful and turn my head.

“Raina, I find that your unique and I like that about you and I think you like me, but me being a dragon is holding you back.”

“I thank you for the compliment and with you being a dragon and I am human, what happens if you leave or…”

As I’m speaking Jonathan raises his body and leans over me barely touching my lips.
“What if you allow me to please you and we forget about the human dragon thing?”

Raising my hand to his face and caressing him, he turns into my hand and kisses it. My breathing has picked up and I want this with him even if it doesn’t work out, my body wants to be with him.

I lean up and kiss him and a growl comes from deep within him and it’s all animal and I like it.

He starts kissing me and leans down on top of my body as I relax on the lounge. He continues to kiss me passionately, undoing my robe using his hands to squeeze my breasts. I want him so badly. He picks me up with one hand and I wrap my legs around his waist as he walks us over to a wider, longer lounge in front of the fire place. He places me on the soft cushions kissing me and letting his hands explore my body. It feels amazing to have him touch me everywhere. He leans down and starts sucking on my breasts, licking and nipping me causing me to moan loudly in pleasure.

He stands and undresses and he’s completely naked like me. He starts kissing my neck, breasts, stomach until he reaches my clit. He licks it slow, swirling his tongue around it skillfully. I scream and pull his hair needing him inside of me, but he doesn’t budge to my demand.

His tongue moves further down and he pushes it inside of me, my eyes roll back into my head and I can’t even scream, that’s how good he’s making me feel.

“Raina!” He whispers.

My body responds to him at will, I’ve never been this hot for another man.

“Jonathan please, I need you inside of me.” I beg.

The next time she opened her eyes, the sun hung low in the sky, her bladder screamed, and her stomach protested the lack of food. All those things quickly flew out of her mind as Archer stood from his chair in the corner. She fought her restraints and tried to shift to no avail.

“Teagan, calm down. You are going to hurt yourself.”

In the history of women, had those words ever calmed a single one down? “You shot me.”

“No. I saved you.”

“Liar.” She pulled on her arm again, and the shoulder protested her movements. “Let me go.”

“As soon as you lie still, I can remove the restraints.” That got her attention. She paused and watched him free one foot then the other. “They were only on because you kept tearing the stitches. Dr. Portwenn will be back in a bit to stitch you again. Before I untie your hands, I need you to listen. There are more slayers in the area. At least one, but I have sensed more. Apparently hunting you. You are safe in the house and on the porch, providing they don’t catch sight of you. But, if you leave the steps, they will be able to track you again.”

“So, I’m a prisoner.”

“For the time being. Hopefully, I can get you out of here and on your way to Ireland in the next day or two.”

She nodded and remained frozen as he removed first one wrist restraint then the one on her injured arm. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. The bathroom is the door in the corner. There are some clean clothes hanging on the back of the door. As I said, if you try to escape, I can’t protect you.” He stepped back and lifted her bag from the table by the stove. “Your phone is charged, but it has been ringing off the hook. When you get out of the bathroom, you need to call people and let them know you’re okay.”

She limped to the bathroom, her body protesting the simple moves. She couldn’t climb out a window with her injuries. She couldn’t shift. Something prevented it. If Archer could be trusted, he was going to let her make some calls. After washing her face and using the new toothbrush she found on the sink, she got into the oversized black T-shirt and gray sweatpants he had left for her. Only then did she make her way back into the room.

The aroma of pancakes frying had her stomach growling. Without turning to her, he placed a plate on the table and returned to the stove. “Eat up. Your phone is next to your coffee.”

“How do I know you didn’t shoot me?”

He faced her. “I never use a gun, not my weapon of choice. I prefer crossbows. If you don’t believe me, check my weapons closet over there.”

She turned in her seat, the double doors taunting her to look inside. A part of her wanted to get up and check. But if she found a gun, she could never trust her mate again. Her head hurt, her shoulder burned, and her heart—her heart didn’t seem to be listening to her brain. Her brain knew there was no way a relationship with Archer could work.

As the front door shut, leaving her alone in the house with Dante, Bailey felt a warmth at her back. She gulped. Dante was right behind her. When he’d sauntered in as if nothing happened in those damn tight jeans and no shirt, heat flooded her. Just looking into the man’s golden gaze made her ache for him. She shouldn’t. She knew it. But the way he moved, the way he spoke, her insides turned to mush even if she didn’t want them to. Damn her betraying body. How dare it? Bailey tried to hold onto the anger even as Dante inched a little closer.

She felt the hot whisper before she heard Dante.

“Did you really carry me naked on your back?” His words were so low, so hot along her skin. Heat pooled between her legs. Damn it, she didn’t react like this to guys! Anger. She needed to hold on to anger in order to stay sane near him.

Bailey moved forward, walking around the island. Her dragon flew off her shoulder and settled on the counter. She had to keep something between them. Once she felt sure enough to turn, she did. But he was there, and her hands met his hard form. Dante growled, or purred, or purr-growled she wasn’t sure but it was so sexy. The sound nearly made her moan. What the hell was he doing to her? Despite her brain telling her to back away, Bailey didn’t. Instead, she stared at his chest. The light dusting of hair intrigued her and the mark…the strange yet familiar brand on him took all of her attention. Her fingertips moved. She watched them, but couldn’t seem to stop herself. She traced the circle slowly and then the tail.

Dante shivered beneath her touch. He grabbed the hand tracing the mark, and her gaze darted up to his. She nearly melted. He looked at her as if she were something to be devoured. His golden gaze dark, hooded, needy. Heat came off him in waves. His hand was hot on hers. He kept a firm grip, pushing her palm all the way down on his mark. He closed his eyes and groaned as if he gained pleasure off just that place being touched. Bailey didn’t allow herself to stop, to think. When his molten gaze fell upon her again, she was lost to him.
